night and the winter sky

wintersky.jpg

December tries to slip away, and one of its footsoldiers, the night, is there to catch it. Threat of snow hazes the plan and we adjust the hands of the day. On a Saturday, I do nothing I can point to later, feel slightly sad, left behind, as the day fades its blue out of the city sky.

But, that waiting night…I think that’s what winter is in New York – a waiting night. And it lives, of course, in the sky.

Which strangely gets bigger, maybe even better, in the winter. Look, between the impervious buildings, over the flat rooftops & below all these hulking bridges – the sky! It isn’t old or boring; it isn’t the same thing twice. The sky wears a different coat every day, and I’m not so fashionable that I can keep up.
